Rumors regarding two new smartphones from Vivo – the X6 and the X6 Plus – have been surfacing for a while now. The company has finally laid to rest all speculations by unveiling the X6 and X6 Plus phablets.
As the name suggests, the Vivo X6 Plus smartphone is the bigger of the two and sports a 5.7-inch screen, whereas sibling X6 boasts a 5.2-inch display.
The X6 is the compact smartphone of the two and has a 5.2-inch Super AMOLED screen with a 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution. This model is 6.56mm thin which is an indicator that Vivo had to compromise on the size of the battery to aid the svelte design.
The X6 Plus, on the other hand, has a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED screen with a 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution. The pixel density of the X6 betters that of the X6 Plus i.e. 424ppi versus 386ppi.
Under the hood, the X6 and the X6 Plus both house the 64-bit MediaTek’s MT6752 octa-core processor which is clocked at 1.7 GHz. However, when it comes to on-board storage capacity, the X6 Plus offers 64GB vis-à-vis the X6′ 32GB.
Both the Vivo phablets have the same 13MP primary and 8MP secondary camera. The primary camera also offers support for fast phase-detection autofocus. Both the smartphones will be powered by Android 5.1 Lollipop and have 4GB of RAM.
The Vivo phablets are both made from anodized aluminum-magnesium alloy and have a premium feel. Both the devices offer expandable storage via a microSD card and have fingerprint scanners on the rear of the device.
The X6 Plus and the X6 may be similar on many counts but they also have several differences. For instance the X6 Plus has a bigger 3000mAh battery compared to the X6′ 2400mAh one. Thanks to the bigger battery, the X6 Plus is thicker than its sibling (6.85mm versus 6.56mm).
Vivo will also be offering a variant of the X6 Plus with a bigger 4000mAh battery. The latest smartphones will also be supporting fast charging.
An area where the X6 Plus excels over the X6 is audio. The former packs in the latest ES9028 DAC audio chip compared to the lower-level DAC used by its sibling. The X6 Plus also includes an ES9603 amplifier and has a YSS-205X digital surround sound chip from YAMAHA.
The Vivo X6 – dual-SIM variant – will cost $390 and is slated for a Dec. 6 release. The X6 Plus is priced at $469; however, this price point is for the basic variant with the 3000mAh battery and opting for the X6 Plus with the 4000mAh battery will set consumers back by $500. The smartphones will be available in three hues: rose gold, silver and gold.
