The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) successfully conducted the ICSE Class 10 Physics (Science I) Semester 1 Theory Paper today, 9th December 2021. The exam was 40 marks, and the time allotted for the examination was 60 minutes. All questions were compulsory. After considering all parameters, CISCE was examined for 2021-22 in a semester wise pattern.

Question Paper Structure
For this academic year 2021-22, ICSE followed a reduced syllabus released on its official website. The question paper comprises MCQ type questions that are asked from chapters’ Force, Work, Energy and Power’, ‘Light’ and ‘Sound’. ‘Sound’ chapter was based only on the concepts of reflection of sound waves, echo and numerical problems based on the concept of echo.

From the above graphical analysis, it is clear that units ‘Light’ and ‘Force, Work, Energy and Power’ carried equal weightage at a value of 17 marks each (Including the sub-questions). From unit ‘Light’, maximum questions given from chapter Refraction at Plane surfaces. While the weightage for ‘Sound’ was considerably less and it was asked only for six marks. The sound chapter is entirely basis on problem-solving questions. Moreover, out of 40 marks paper overall, 13 marks weightage was given to the diagram-based questions asked from unit Force and Work, Energy and Power only.
Students and Experts Feedback
We got some mixed reactions from students. According to some students, the paper was tricky and complicated, while some said the paper was doable. Students found the questions asked in the Light chapter bit difficult. According to experts, the one with an excellent hold over the concepts would find these questions more manageable. The paper’s difficulty level was somewhat similar to that of the ICSE Physics Specimen Paper, and some students feel glad that they solved it. We, too, feel that some questions were of a moderate level and needed detailed conceptual understanding. Students with thorough knowledge of the units of ‘Force, Work, Power and Energy, ‘Light’ would find this paper very scoring.
