Glu Mobile, a global developer of free-to-play games for smartphone and tablet devices, revealed on Wednesday that it will producing a game featuring pop sensation Taylor Swift, due out later this year. The company previously created celebrity games featuring Kim Kardashian and Katy Perry.
Shares in the company spiked more than 26 percent after hours following the announcement.
“We realize that Taylor and her global fan base expect a new and highly differentiated mobile gaming experience,” Niccolo de Masi, chairman and CEO of Glu, said in a statement. “Glu is equally committed to designing never before seen gameplay elements that utilize Taylor’s unique creativity.”
Swift has social media audience of 227 million — a combination of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Vevo followers, of which there is some overlap — which Glu hopes to tap into with their newest game. The artist will work exclusively with the company as part of a multi-year partnership.
Details about the project will remain under wraps for now, but fans can expect the game to launch in late 2016.
