The official changelog of the Moto X lists the changes that the Android 5.1 Lollipop update brings, including Material Design; new notifications that will appear on the lock screen and can intelligently ranked by type and who sent them; a redesigned Overview space; new Moto Display and Ambient Display which will show relevant notifications when the phone’s display is off; a new flashlight option as part of Quick settings; a new pull-down menu for selecting different Wi-Fi access points or different paired Bluetooth devices, and now the battery settings panel will show an estimated projection for how much time you have left while discharging or charging.
The Android 5.1 Lollipop update for Moto X (Gen 1) handset will also let users block interruptions until the next alarm, alter notification volume controls while media is playing, apart from dismissing a heads-up notification and swipe it up to remove it from the screen. Improvements in ART (Android Runtime), which will result in the faster opening of apps and other performance improvements, are also included. The update also incorporates Motorola Assist, Motorola Active Display, Moto Voice (Touchless Control), and Moto Actions
